Katie Maynard, MSW, LICSW

Hello!  Most people click on “about me” sections to find out if the practitioner might be a good fit. Therapists can have similar degrees and experience but can feel dramatically different to our clients in terms of the relationship that we build.  This is not a bad thing, but unfortunately can take some shopping around to find a provider, which is exhausting when you are feeling great and overwhelming when are in need of care.

So, who am I and what might it be like working with me? I'm a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and have been a Seattle-area provider since 2000 and independently licensed since 2004.

My approach is person-centered and tailored to the individual and includes treatment that holds both empirical evidence and endorsement by those with lived experience. I have a relational non-pathologizing focus that acknowledges that my clients’ places of ‘stuckness’ are adaptive responses to difficulties and challenges they have faced related to attachment, safety, and health.

I work from a perspective of social justice, intersectionality, and anti-racism.  This means that I care about, and seek to understand more about, the ways that injustice and oppression shape our society and affect my clients' lives. I have a neurodiversity affirming practice. These are areas in which I receive ongoing training and consultation to provide culturally responsive care with humility.

I focus on the unique strengths, perspectives, goals, and cultures of my clients. I believe that you are the expert on your life and I work collaboratively to reflect progress and offer insight along the way.  My style is warmly direct and accepting and I practice within person-centered, narrative, and trans-inclusive feminist orientations.

I have worked with youth and adults in educational, medical, and community mental health settings, such as Central Youth and Family Services, Children's Hospital, Youth Eastside Services, Cancer Lifeline, The Gathering Place, The Cross Cultural Health Care Program, and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center/SCCA. I am a member of the Washington State Society for Clinical Social Work and a New Legacy Institute Advisor.
